Ephemeral Whirls — Catalogue Computational Textile Design
A study in generative motion

EphemeralWhirls

A tangled field of looping lines — twenty-four wanderers leaving coloured traces, algorithmically drawn, seed-documented, ready for textile production.

For fashion houses, textile studios and surface designers. Each composition is generated from a single numeric seed and can be licensed, adapted or commissioned to your brief.

A line, when it is wandering rather than drawn, becomes a whirl — tangled, patient, quietly yours.

I am an Iranian-born artist working at the intersection of classical ornament and generative systems. My work begins with a simple observation: the wandering line — irregular, patient, endlessly variable — has always carried the trace of a body in motion. From the trailing thread of a spider to the meander of a river, the looping stroke is one of the oldest forms of drawn computation we have.

Ephemeral Whirls is a seed-based generative system that translates that motion into code. Each composition is built from two dozen small agents — I call them "loopers" — that wander across the frame in a slowly curving path. Every now and then, a looper decides to loop: it enters a slow spin, completes a full circle, and returns to its wandering. Over two thousand steps, the loopers leave a tangled, coloured field of lines.

The palette, the number of loopers, the number of steps, and the orientation of the whole field are all derived from a single numeric seed. Each piece can be regenerated, documented, and adapted for textile, print, and surface applications — from scarves and yardage to wallpaper and archival print.

On AI tools — where I encountered technical obstacles, I turned to AI tools for debugging and code optimization. Every structural, aesthetic, and conceptual decision remained my own.

Wandered,
not just drawn.

02 / Surfaces

One composition.
Many surfaces.

The same seed, presented as an archival print — and applied across fabric, scarf, textile and wall surfaces without loss of structure.

Applied across surfaces.

Every surface below is drawn from the same numeric seed — its repeat, orientation and scale adapted to the material, while the underlying structural logic remains identical.

01 / Seed

Variation

A numeric seed initializes the palette, the looper count, the iteration count, and the orientation of the whole field. Each composition is regenerated and documented as a distinct, traceable output.

02 / Whirl

Geometry

Each looper is a small agent that wanders across the frame in a slowly curving path. At random moments, it enters a spin, completing a full circle before continuing. Over thousands of steps, the trace accumulates.

03 / Surface

Application

The resulting composition becomes a surface-design asset — explored across garments, textile prints, wallpaper and other pattern-driven applications.

One system.
Many surfaces.

Ephemeral Whirls is a generative design system rather than a single artwork. Its wandering, looping visual language can be adapted for fashion, textile development and other surface-oriented contexts — while maintaining a computational origin.
