A collection of nine typographic narratives —
bodies rendered in characters, stories told in code.
I am an Iranian-born artist working at the intersection of
generative code and photographic portraiture. My work begins
with a simple observation: the body, like a text, can be read
— line by line, symbol by symbol. To see is to parse. To parse
is to tell a story.
ASCII Body is a collection of nine works, each
a feminine body photograph transformed into ASCII art using
p5.js. The original images — photographed on a Nokia G20 —
are mapped to a character set, so that light and shadow become
slashes, dots, brackets, and letters. Some works read as
portraits; others as landscapes, dreams, or love letters.
Each work carries a written story — a short prose piece that
accompanies the composition. The stories range from mythic
("a generative homage to the divine feminine") to sensual
("a burst of forbidden desire") to tender ("a love letter in
pixels, just for you"). Together they form a set of small
fables told in characters and code.
On AI tools — where I encountered technical
obstacles, I turned to AI tools for debugging and code
optimization. Every structural, aesthetic, and conceptual
decision remained my own.
